La Tercera is an alcohol-free social lounge. A third place between home and work where you can drop in, meet, talk and belong — without the expectation to drink.

01 · The problem
If you want to meet a friend in the evening, you're choosing between a bar, another bar, or staying home.
Classes, events, dinners — everything needs a reservation, a price tag, and a calendar slot.
Cafés close early. Co-working is for working. We're missing a relaxed in-between.
Late nights, next-day regret, and performative nightlife energy aren't for everyone.
02 · What people told us
Quotes from interviews with people in their 20s in Madrid, lightly edited for clarity.
Alcohol isn't the important part. It's just a social lubricant.
Most things need to be planned ahead. It can be hard to even put together a simple hangout.
I try to find places that are cheap or free, where you can just sit and talk for a while.

03 · What La Tercera is
La Tercera is a warm, alcohol-free social lounge. Soft seating, low lighting, ceramic mugs, good music at a volume you can talk over. You can come alone with a book and end up in conversation, or arrive with two friends and find a corner that feels like your own.
The point isn't an event or an activity. The point is the room itself — and the people in it. Membership keeps it intimate, accessible, and ours.
04 · How it works
Open most of the week. No reservation, no plan required. Walk in, take a seat, stay an hour or a whole afternoon.
Specialty coffee, herbal teas, cold brews, vermut sin, kombucha. Snacks worth lingering over. Zero alcohol on the menu.
A small, intentional community of people who use the space often enough to know each other's faces.
House rules favour conversation over phones. Staff are part of the room, not behind a counter.
Listening sessions, language exchanges, book swaps, member dinners. Optional. Always.
05 · Why alcohol-free
You don't have to be sober, in recovery, or making a statement to come here. You just have to want a place where the evening doesn't depend on the next drink.
Removing alcohol from the centre of the room makes everything else louder — the conversation, the music, the people you came to see. It also makes the space more accessible: to students, to people who don't drink, to anyone who's tired of bars being the default answer.
06 · Membership
La Tercera will run on a low monthly membership with student-friendly pricing. We're working out the exact tiers with our first members — that's part of why we're starting with a waitlist.

No. La Tercera is for anyone who wants a relaxed social space that doesn't revolve around alcohol — drinkers, non-drinkers, sometimes-drinkers. The room is alcohol-free; the people aren't categorised.
